Only if you too have lossed a loved dog can you fully understand the sense of emptiness you feel when they go. Being a big dog we of course felt his physical absence, there was the absence of his smell, of his heat and warmth and the affection they show continually. The house was horrible without him. So we embarked on a series of weekends away to Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Edinburgh. But of course each trip away meant coming back to an empty house.
Time does help. And we can now look back and think of him without breaking down. Alfie brought us nothing but joy. It was that revolting disease that brought us pain.
We enjoyed every minute of our lives with Alfie and can remember with happiness that wirey whirlwind time.
