These "effects" are hardly an aside - they become central to your life

One of the hardest parts of canine epilepsy to deal with is undoubtedly the side effects of the drugs themselves.

Phenobarbitol - made Alfie very hungry and very thirsty and that changed his behaviour - he'd pester pester pester argghh!

Potassium Bromide Kbr - initially made him sick so we now sprinkle it onto food and that avoids that problem. He also had itchy skin which still flares up from time to time. And then there is the ataxia - or " wobbledog. That is frightening in itself.

Keppra - has made him very sleepy but that has been a blessing because he has fewer pacey whiney days.

The good news is that these side effects wore off to some extent - making our lives easier. Keppra was a great help in making Alfie more like Alfie once again. Our last summer with him was brilliant because of that drug.
