There was an awful lot of crying
The nightmare did worsen in September 2006. We had to acknowledge that the meds were not controlling his seizures and the bad days were outweighing the good.
If 18 months ago you had told me Alfie would be having a seizure every month I would have flipped. But having - over the last Christmas with him when he was having them every two or three days - we would have taken the once a month scenario - happily. But by September they had become almost daily occurences.
It dawned on us that the day would soon be coming when we would have to let him go. He was not having the quality of life he deserved. After raising the drugs once again and adding diazapam (once again) which is not for long term use the seizures continued to come frequently. He was seizing everyday by mid October 2006.
After a particularly horrid weekend we agreed that if he did not have a seizure free Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday we were being told that it was time. He seized on Monday and on Tuesday started to go into status - so I called the vet.
Alfie died at 6.10pm on Tuesday 17th October 2006. He died in our arms, on the living room rug. He was 4 years and 13 days old. He is at last at peace.
